-Audio Books-
A sweet little site with very well read stories, this one captured my heart from the get go. Choose from classics like Sleeping Beauty or Alice in Wonderland or browse the other categories offering educational stories, myths and legends or even a selection of site originals.
There are many things I love about Lit @ Go. It's VERY easy to navigate and there's not just audio. You can actually read the PDF text by itself, follow along with the audio (great for little ones just learning and to reenforce punctuation visually) or simply listen to the book. Each of the files are available to download and the selection is wonderful! 22 genres and close to 200 authors and the readings are lovely.
A collection of fables, fairy tales and poems read by a woman with a friendly voice and beautiful, British accent. There are also stories to read, but I am partial to the rare, audio finds such as, The North Wind, The Pied Piper of Hamelin and Wynken, Blynken and Nod.
This is the largest collection of free audio books I know of. It's also available as an app on for on the go listening. How is it possible to get this many for free? These books are in "The public domain," which means the copyrights have not been renewed, so they are available for public use (yay)! They are also read by volunteers, keeping them EVER so affordable.
If you're feeling a little nostalgic, try one of the recordings from "The golden age of radio." This measure trove of old time radio is a wonderful way to introduce the method of listening to entertain yourself and take a trip back in time. Most of these are from the mid forties to early fifties and the selection is great! Disney, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Loony Toons, Mother Goose, Aesop, Sheri Lewis, Art Linkletter and more!
Similar to "Kiddie Records," the children's records here are fro the 50's and 60's. Hero stories like Robin Hood and Cinderella, 'A child's introduction to orchestra, french, spanish or jazz, tall tales, folk songs and more fairy tales!
If you haven't tried Audible yet, now is a great time! They are an app based ebook service owned by Amazon and they usually give a free book credit to new customers. However, they are currently running a promotion for TWO FREE EBOOKS for new sign ups. They ARE a subscription service, so be sure and cancel before the end of the 30 days to avoid being charged. When we signed up, the credits we decided on a Lord of the Rings book. Yay for hours of free listening!
